My father passed away about 3 weeks ago and as my mother went through his wallet after his death she found several credit cards that he had run up balances on and had the bills being forwarded to a local P.O. box that my mother did not know of. My mother was not a joint cardholder on any of these credit cards.

My question is whether my mother is responsible for paying these cards off and if she doesn't can the credit card companies place a lien on her house?
