What is the name of your state? Michigan

My friend was married for 18 years, he has been out of the house for over 2 years. He was asked to leave repeatedly until he finally left.
He filed for divorce in February of this year. His
father passed in April of this year and left him and his brothers an inheritence. His soon to be
ex is now trying to get half the inheritence. Her
name nor the childrens were mentioned at all in
the inheritence. Is she entitled to any of it?
She states that her concern is the care of their
special needs daughter and that is why she is going for it. He has always taken care of his
daughter. I thought that with an inheritence
that is stays with whoever it states in the will
and no one else?

You're right.... almost.

Here is the situation. Until such time as the divorce is final, they still have joint marital assets. As such, whatever he inherits will be considered in the divorce. And she can certainly claim her right to the marital property.
