What is the name of your state? n.y. we are 3 siblings, living in nc,tn,ny.our father lived in wv. he was widowed and never remarried. he holds property in wv and ny states. we don't even know where to begin to look for a will. if we can't find a will, which state takes precedence? his residence was wv, but he died in tn.

The primary probate will take place in the state where the death occurred (Tennessee). Then you can do secondary minor probate proceedings in any state where there is property that must be claimed.

Look in your father's residence amongst his personal papers to search for a possible will. If you know where he did his banking, ask the bank if he has a safe deposit box there.
