My stepson has a wife that has been abusing him. He has never reported this to anyone until now, and he told us. They have a 5 month old son. Him and her are separated at this point and she is refusing to let him come and get his son for a weekend stay. What can we do about this? What steps do we take for him to get custody? How can we prove her unfit? She has been in counseling and is manic depressive, in addition to being abusive. She was also sexually abused by her brother for years as she was growing up. Any advise as to how to get custody would be appreciated. They are separated now, but no paperwork has been filed

He needs to file for divorce and get a custody or visitation order from the court.

Until then, he can't do too much to get her to let him see the child.

If you're serious about launching a custody fight, get ready to spend $5K to $10K.

Now's the time to do it, rather than later.
