My response:

Did you read your Summons, front and back?

Your answer is there - - it's called a "Restraining Order".

I am not sure about CA laws but in MD where I work and was a resident for 10 yrs. I was told by Human Resources that unles you are Legally Separated meaing gone thru the courts or Divorced you CAN'T drop them. Once your Divorce has gone thru and the Divorce papers Don't say that you Can't, then you can drop them. Until then your stuck just as I am at the moment.
