What is the name of your state? California. In 1998 my son and a friend were accused of shoplifting. We countered that this was a case of entrapment because a) they paid for an item and have a receipt and b) asked the cashier if this was the "correct price for the ball" and were told "Yes." After we sent our letter, no further correspondence was received from the company. Today (8/13/02) a letter is received "requesting restitution." Is there a time limit a company can take to file charges? Should we simply ignore this letter or should we seek legal counsel? Our son and his friend were both approximately 15 years old at the time. They apparently took one ball and exchanged it for a ball which was in a box. Many thanks for whatever assistance you can offer.
