My son has been employed with a large national corporation for one year. He has had facial piercings for 8 months and no one at his job ever said a word about them. He works third shift and has limited contact with the public. Las night upon arriving at work, he was taken into the office and told that there is a new policy against facial piercings and that if, when he came into work tonight, did not have them removed, he would be sent home. He was told that after being sent home, the next step would be verbal warnings and dismissal. He's a good employee, obviously, since he had his yearly evaluation las week and received and "excellent". Does he have any recourse?

Your son does not have any legal recourse. An employer is certainly free to regulate certain items of appearance to include facial piercing. There is no protected right to have such facial piercings and mandate that an employer not require you to get rid of them to work there.
