What is the name of your state? Ontario

Where I work, if a cashier is short cash at the end of the day the company will may him/her pay the outage. Also, we have cheques verified by a verification company. If the cashier accepts a cheque and it isn't verified, and the cheque comes back NSF, the cashier has to pay the outage. Is this legal?

Yep, fully legal. In fact, since Ontario is NOT in the United States, the employer can grab the idiot cashier around the throat and beat him to the ground.... then put his foot on his neck and grind it for 3.4 seconds... eventually releasing the foot long enough to grab the scoundrel by the neck and to TOSS him out of the store!!
However, if he tosses him across the border.... all bets as to legality are off!!

In the US, whether or not this is legal depends on state law. However, Canadian law is different and this site deals only with US law. Sorry.
