Counter Claim?

My friend sued by a small company in the US District Court. The nature of the charge was RICO. However, the case dismissed in court. Should my friend file for counter claim? For defamation?

Did he suffer any losses because of this lawsuit other than the time and legal fees to fight the suit?

He lost few work contracts due to this lawsuit. He has not been able to find any contract after that.
