We are about to settle with an insurance company for an auto accident we were in Idaho. My wife was 6 months pregnant, and was taken to the hospital at the scene. They took X-rays, etc. She did have some internal bruising, but the baby seemed to be ok.

We waited until the baby was born to consider settling. The amount they offered was a few hundred dollars.

My question is: Is that reasonable and how does the negotiating process work?

Thank you.

You should get a settlement that pays all medical bills, time lost from work, and includes an amount for pain and suffering.

Around here, you would expect to receive for pain and suffering a net gain of an amount equal to medical bills and time lost from work.

Only you know how much these amounts are.
