My husband is a semi driver employed by a trucking company driving their trucks. He recently had a accident where both parties involved were sited. His work now says he has to pay $1000 of the repair bill, and will be taking it out in weekly installments in his check, they also want him to sign a paper stating this. Is this legal for them to charge him? And should he sign the paper? Any advice would help. Thanks.

Yes $1000 is probably the deductable on the insurance policy.

And he is liable to pay it, since he was at fault ,no different then if it was HIS personal car.

So how else would they get the $1000 from him? deducting from his check seems the easiest way to make both sides happy....And KEEP his JOB!

You need to talk to an attorney. I would not sign anything until you do as you are giving them permission for the payroll deduction.

Is the $1000 an insurance deduction? When he signed on to work did he have to sign a employee agreement statement? If so check that and see if accidents are listed. If you do have to pay, make sure you retain the receipt showing you paid for the damage.
