i live in massachusetts now but have a 1099 form from louisianna to file taxes with as well as my w-2's from mass. how do i file the louisianna taxes? do i need to file state and federal tax forms in louisianna and massachusetts or can i just file both in massachusetts?

It really depends on the amount of money on the 1099 form. Most likely if it higher than the standard deduction in louisianna, you will file a part year resident return there, and a part year resident return in Mass. You still only file 1 federal tax return.
