What is the name of your state? NC

We bought a new house in 1997. We have paid our taxes faithfully ever since, as billed. We just got notified that we have not been paying enough taxes-we were not billed enough. Now, we have now been billed for all the back tax-which is due immediately, as well as our current taxes. Is this legal? We already know it is not fair!

Consult a local attorney to see how far back the taxing authority can assess taxes. There may be statute of limitation issues. Otherwise, you'll have to pay them. You should also be able to argue that the county cannot equitably add interest & penalties, since you paid what they told you to pay.
