Subject: claim against estate

Father worked for the State of CT, During which time
he was institutionalized, for alcohol treatment, He was given the choice to receive this treatment or lose his job. He forfieted his pay during the time of treatment
and the state paid for the treatment. Now 26 years later we recieve a note from a lawyer stating that the state has a claim for 200,000.00 dollars, this is
astronomical considering his treatment was for under
40 days,Is it possible that they can request payment
for something that was apperently taken care of years ago. How come they never tried to collect money while he was alive if he owed them anything. Can this be for real.

See a lawyer in CT immediately. That's a lot of money!

While substance abuse treatment is very costly, my guess is that it is not $5,000 per day, but there might be interest for 26 years. But wasn't it covered by his insurance as a state employee?

How they can claim it now is beyond me. This is a mess and only your own lawyer can help.
