What is the name of your state? virginia

my mother is moving from georgia to live with us and is selling her home. we will need to sell our home and buy a new home with an in-law suite so she wants to give us $90,000 towards our new home. what amount of tax would we pay for this gift and what would tax ramifications be to her also - she is 79. we do not want the new home to be in her name - we are trying to clear all her assests out of her name. thanks

For you, nothing. For her, she files a gift tax return Form 706 & uses a little of her uniform gift & estate tax credit. Since she has $1.3M to play with , it's unlikely there will be any TAX consequences for her. You'll need to consult an attotney about what effect this might have on medicare eligibility.
