What is the name of your state? IL

I read on this forum something about how taxes filling status affects either one in the case of divorce. If you file jonitly yoiu are responsible for the debt of yur spouse. Is this correct? I would appreciate if someone can explain this to me.
Thanks

No impact

Your tax filing status has no impact on how the courts (or creditors) view responsibilty for debt or ownership of assets. I'll let the experts chime in here, but I can't think of anyway how your tax filing status affects a divorce.
