What is the name of your state? IL

I read on this forum something about how taxes filling status affects either one in the case of divorce. If you file jonitly yoiu are responsible for the debt of yur spouse. Is this correct? I would appreciate if someone can explain this to me.
Thanks

You are responsible for any inaccuracies on any tax return you sign, regardless of fault. If you file jointly, you are responsible for any taxes/interest/penalties on income your spouse does not report. There's a very narrow exception to this rule, but it only applies if you were forced to sign the return or had no way of knowing it was wrong.
