What is the name of your state? Arizona

My partner and I purchased a house in 2002. The mortgage was in his name only, because it was a VA loan. The title/deed is in both of our names as single person with joint survivorship.

My partner died in January 2003 before filing income taxes for 2002.

Can I take 1/2, or the entire deduction, for the mortgage interest and the property taxes and any other closing costs which may be involved?

The full amount of the mortgage payments were made from my personal checking account.
