What is the name of your state? PA

My first question concerns money paid to an assisted-care facility. My aunt lives in one. Is she allowed to take a tax deduction for the amount she pays each month to the facility? They provide her with housing, medication monitoring, and meals.

Secondly, in two recent posts on Feb, 23, 2003 by Kathy Pasch and Tigger21 concerning gift taxes and inheritences there are replies that mention Form 706. Shouldn't that be Form 709?

Thanks in advance.

She can include in medical expenses the cost of medical care in the facility, including the cost of meals and lodging in the home only if the main reason for being there is to get medical care. She can, however, include in medical expenses the part of the cost that is for medical or nursing care.

The Gift Tax Return is Form 709. The Short Form Gift Tax Return is Form 709-A.
