We are three biological children of a man who passed away three years ago. His wife, to whom he had been married for several years after our mother died, never shared any information with us regarding his sizeable estate. We assume that they had some sort of trust as nothing was ever filed for probate here in the state of MA. While we realize that the time has long passed to do anything, was there an avenue we might have explored to see if we could have obtained any info re will (or lack thereof),contents of trusts etc?

This is something you should call a lawyer about. Look at attorneypages.com under probate in the locale he lived in. Unless something is on file, like a Will or a deed the property went by living trust OR has not gone thru probate yet. As far as time gone by, if you were not notified and legally should have been, it does not count.
