I have been named executor of my father's will but, given the family dynamics, I'm afraid that the will might be contested and I'd be placed in an undesirable position. At the time the will is effected, could I name another, objective source, to be executor?

It depends what the Will says -- yes, you probably could but may not want to. Might you Get Dad to name a bank? Or even better, get a lawyer to help with the will, or use a trust, to make a Will contest much more difficult. Check out AttorneyPages.ocm.
