My now deceased relative had changed the beneficiary of an insurance policy from my sibling to me years ago. Now that the will has been read, my sibling is threatening me that they (their family) will prove that I cohersed my relative into changing the beneficiary. This is totally not true. I did however write the letter to the insurance company changing the beneficiary from my sibling to myself, only after the prompting of my deceased relative, due to poor writing ability (arthritis). This letter had been signed by the aforementioned relative. What is the possiblity that they could prove what they perceive as cohersion? I know this is just about the money. Any help would be appreciated.

It is easy to make charges, not easy to win.

Much would depend on the relative's
mental and other abilities at the time of the change, whether there was a potential for coercion, mistake or fraud, etc.

The best defense is preparation NOW, before the sibling messes things up. If there is a reasonable amount of money involved see a lawyer NOW and review it in detail -- and by the way, it is ALWAYS about money....
