together 19 years, have wills and power of attorneys. but our vehicles and homes are in his name only. does that mean i would have to pay a tax in cause of death. should things be both of our names to avoid taxes?
There is a $675,000 estate tax exemption. If the assets exceed that amount, unless you are married, the assets you leave each other are subject to Federal estate tax.
