I attend a private Catholic University in Pennsylvania.

We have Fraternities and Sororities like a lot of Universities. We also have a Freshman Orientation program which is very popular.

Anyhow the university will not allow "greek" students who volunteer to help with the orientation program to wear fraternity or sorority related apparel during the program.

In addition, "greek" student volunteers are prohibited from talking to any freshman about greek life aside from mentioning that they are in a greek organization--they are prohibited from revealing what greek organization they are affiliated with.

At many universities across the country Orientation is a VERY big tool in recruiting new members for greek organizations. Because we cannot talk about greek life to freshman, this has severely crippled us.

Is this a violation of our first ammendment rights?

"Private" is the key phrase here. The 1st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution protects you, like all other amendments, from the Government. If you were attending a state university, you may have had a case. Being a private university, they can restrict your "advertisement".
