widowed before divorce

What is the name of your state? was montana, now maryland.
my husband and i were going to seperate, then get a divorce. however, before the seperation even happened, he died. now, i'm being told that even tho i'm a widow, i need to have divorce papers drawn up so that i can re-marry. is this true, and if so, how do i go about doing it?
