If I were to anonymously request jurisdictionally appropriate governmental agencies investigate certain individuals who I reasonably believe may be involved in criminal activity, would my request be taken seriously and then acted upon because of my anonymity? If so, could there ever be a circumstance after an investigation is initiated where these governmental agencies could force me to reveal my identity? Additionally, if the aforementioned certain individuals are indeed investigated, could they retain an attorney and force me to acknowledge I was the anonymous informant, most probably in order to try to threaten me with a defamation of character lawsuit, if they only possessed mere speculation and quasi-logical deduction that I was the informant?

Thank-you
