My mothers sister passed away, intestate. Her assets go to my mother and her other sister. The whole thing is in probate but there was a partial cash disbursement to my mother and her sister, the balance is to be distributed when probate is settled. Now the kicker...my mothers other sister died the same day she received her partial payment. Now the question......does the balance still go half to my mother and half to her sister (even though she died)or would the balance now go to my mother as the only surviving relative. In other words, does my mothers sisters death revoke her right to the remaining balance left to her? The probate is in Pa. Thanks for any advice!!

My response:

Thought you'd get a windfall, eh? No, your Aunt's "advance" money goes to her own Estate, as well as the balance of the money she would have personally received, but for her own death. All money now goes to your Aunt's Estate.
