the site that i am doing my taxes on says that i can claim medical expenses that total over 7.5% of my agi.does this apply only to expenses if i do not have insurance?

so if i have pre tax & after tax deductions on my paycheck for medical and dental insurance that total >7.5% of my agi,i can claim that? wouldnt that mean a lot of people could have free insurance?

No, pretax expenses are not paid out of pocket, since the $$ never reached your pocket (taxable income) in the first place.
