What is the name of your state? illinois. When they arrested him and took him to jail they wanted him to fill out a statement and he told them he didn't know anything. So the police officer told him excatly what to write. They told him if he didn't he could face up to 60 years of prison time. The boy is 17 years old and was scared and didn't know what to do. What can he do about that.

Yes, there are many 17 year olds that don't know that they are doing wrong. Parents just don't spend the time they should with them. Luckily the officer had compassion to help save him from a long sentence in prison. I think offering the officer dinner along with your thanks would be appropriate.
