Simple domestic assault???????

Please help I spent Fathers Day in jail over my soon to be ex husband pushing my 4 year old down and hitting me and I punched him. He has filled assault charges on me now even though he has felony assault charges from beating me up. What can I do to fight this all I was doing was defending my daughter and myself?????????
