I was dating a woman who was seperated from her husband. She ended up going back to her husband and she was pregnant. She now, after the child is six months old and she is again seperated from her husband, says I am the father of this child. The baby was conceived and born during the course of her marriage and her husband signed the birth certificate. There is a possibility that she was on State Assistance, WELFARE, when the child was born. I need to know if I can find out positively if she was on WELFARE and what type of State grant she was on. I need to know if there is a way to find out if I would be financially responsible for the birth of him and what other financial responsibilities I may have. Also, I need to know what rights I may have in this matter. Thank you very much for your assistance in this situation.

Petition the court where the boy lives for a determination of parentage. The court will order DNA tests to see if you are the dad. If you are, you will be required to pay support, and can request visitation. You probably can't find out if she was on welfare.
