I went and filed for divorce on the 10th of April. Now I need to find out when I serve him with the papers. Since we have a hearing on the 24th. to decide the custody of our son.

Generally you have 30 days from the date of the filing of the petition for divorce in which to serve the papers. You really should have the papers served promptly. To verify this time period, it should be stated in the Summons (or possibly other papers) that the court clerk gave you when you filed your petition for divorce.
