We live in Illinois. My husband has overpaid his child support by $1000. His workplace was remiss even though we kept telling them he had finished paying and the state doesn't keep good records. Both his sons are emancipated. We have a handicapped child and could use that money. How can we get it back? Waiting at the state offices could cost us that much because you cannot call for an appointment and waiting to see someone could take days. My husband is an independent contractor and does not get paid for time off.
