What is the name of your state? WA

My best friend with 4 children moved from Washington with the kids to Montana. Her spouse filed an emergency ex parte order requesting the courts that she move back to Washington into the family home. He said he would leave upon her return. She gave him a PO box to send her mail to as a precautionary, abusive relationship.
His lawyer faxed her portions of the court documents on Sept. 16, the same day they filed it with the courts. The court date changed and they never notified her. We found out by pulling the file at the court house. She did move back last weekend to the family home and he moved out.
Since we know the court date is Sept 30th, and she was never properly served, what does she need to do to show the courts she is going to be there. She has no lawyer, or money for a lawyer. If she just shows up can she speak in defense of herself?

Her spouse also filed for legal separation, and child support. There is a stamp marked "Pending" on it. The "Summons" was never served properly either-nothing was served to her! Does the Pending stamp mean she does not need to respond to any of this yet?

Any help for this wonderful mother would be awesome!
