What is the name of your state? Michigan

I borrowed against my 401K for the downpayment of our house and again 5 years later to make home improvements. Can I recoup some of that money when we sell the house? My husband says " money spent is money gone" but I feel that since it was from my 401K (& my salary paid it back) that I'm entitled to more of the equity when we sell.

If I can recoup some of it how do I go about doing that?
