What is the name of your state? ILLINOIS My parents passed away within 3 months of each other back in December of 2000. The estate is settled but how long should we hold onto all the paper work, cancelled checks etc? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Mike

For your own protection, at least seven years. If this case was a problem with relatives, then I'd say even ten years. Protect yourself.
