my divorce is now finalized and i have a question about separation of property. the court awarded me a car that my ex has a loan out for through the bank. My name is not on that loan. Legally can I change ownership through DMV to me and is she responsible for payments on that?

Title to the car and the finance contract are separate issues. However, you should call the DMV to make sure that you can title the car in your name. As long as there is a lien holder listed on the old title, you will need a lien release from them to title it without the lien.
