What is the name of your state? michigan

thanks for everyone's reply reqarding my problem. I will call the lawyer to try and make a settlement however I need advice before I do.

We initially gave the lawyer a $3000 retainer fee so he has that. I find out that we stopped making payments to him over 10months ago and he has now added interest to the balance we owe him. Is this normal procedure? Is this legal? Do I have to pay interest on a fee that I already am unable to pay
