Car Title

My husband and I just paid off a car last week. We were never late with a payment and, in fact paid off the note early.

I contacted the car lot to make sure they received our final payment and they confirmed they did, but say they won't send us the title by mail.
Can they do this?

Yes.

Whom do you think is liable IF you call and tell them, after a month, that you don't have a title if they mail it.

Pretty please go by the car lot and pick up your title. The dealership doesn't want to deal with the problems caused when titles are lost in the mail.
