Can I refuse someone thier car ,if they let me or my girlfriend have it to buy and then they want it back, without payment for repairs I paid for?

My response:

Nope, not if you're in breach of the contract; e.g., failed to make payment(s). However, there is an exception to that - - if there's a trailer attached, you don't have to give up your home.

The owners that were selling the car are the ones that are breeching a verbal agreement.
