A friend owns a very large CD collection and just bought an MP3 player. They would like to have their CD collection converted to MP3, but say that they do not have the time to burn all the CD's as this seems to take about 10 minutes per. They have offered to pay me to burn their CD's for them. Is it legal for me to take their CD collection, convert to mp3, and return both to them? I would delete and not keep any of the mp3's.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Your friend can do this himself if he owns the cds under fair use doctrine. However, if you are paid to do this, you could be held liable for copyright infringement.

Tell your 'friend' no dice.
