I live in Tx and my niece came to live with me who is 17yrs old. Can she stay with me without her parents permission? I have her register in school in the town where I live. But I know as soon as the Mother finds out she is happy she will make her come home. Can we stop them legally?

My response:

The legal age of consent in Texas is 17. She can stay with anyone she wants, and go anywhere she wants. She is an adult, in the eyes of the law.
