I'm in NYC, she's in California.

I was bidding on something of her's on eBay. I won the bid but then decided that I didn't actually want the $2,500 product.

I didn't pay anything, she didn't ship anything.

She re-listed her product on eBay and it ended up selling for $900 less than when I had won the auction. Now she says she's suing me for the difference.

Should she possibly have a case? Would I have to go all the way to California to defend myself? If I win, can she be liable for my expenses?

Thanks.

You can sue any one for any thing. I see your case as not getting too far. She would have to go to NY, not you to California. I wouldn't even sweat it. My thoughts are that she's blowing hot air.
