What is the name of your state? KS
Between 7/22/03 and 8/27/03 I had considerable dental work done
including multiple fillings and denture alignment and adjustments. I
was told all my dental work was done by the dentist,
and told there was nothing more he could do for my dentures which I
didnt feel fit right after realignment and 5 adjustments. In talking
with my medical doctor about recurring headaches since the realignment,
he suggested I see a different dentist.

I went to another dentist who was able to adjust my dentures to a point
where I could wear them, but she said they needed to be replaced as they
couldnt be fitted properly. Much to my surprise she also told me I had
several decayed areas, which were under the fillings I had just gotten
in the last 3 months. When I questioned her assistant as to why I should
get them repaired if they had decayed that quickly, her asst said when
they were recently repaired she would say all the decay wasn't removed
first. She went on to tell me that her office uses a special
application that shows if any decay is remaining before they put the
filling in, but many older dentists don't believe in it.

So now I have went thru 7 dental appts, missed work, a large bill which
I have yet to pay, and insurance benefits used, only to find out I have
to have every filling I just got drilled out and redone, and get my
dentures replaced. This seems improper to me. Do I have any recourse?

Don't pay

Just a couple of suggestions:

1) Don't pay the bill.
2) Inform the dentist that you are not paying the bill - and why.
3) Find out what your small claims cap is for your city/county. Sue the dentist in small claims court for your lost wages.
4) Report the incident to your insurance company.

Report the incident to your insurance company.
Your insurance company will pay claims based on the documentation submitted by the dentist. Though its good to always inform your insurance of complications you are having with the dentist this situation is a Patient Provider relations issue and 99. % Chance your insurance is gonna direct you back to the dentist.

The best advice I suggest is contacting your dentist that you feel mistreated you and explain what your new dentist has found. Explain your situation and how his treatment in your opinion and in your new dentist opinion as well as your Dr caused you pain and decay of your teeth. Hopefully this DMD will understand your situation and refund your payment to you as well as your insurance. If he does agree to return funds inform your insurance as they deserve there portion back (feel your insurance doesn’t deserve it fine premiums go up they get it anyway).

There may be some reason to suspect things were not done properly but there is also reason to suspect gum disease with bone loss and deterioration of the teeth to the point that no amount of fillings or techniques to identify areas of decay is going to stop the process. Obtaining and maintaining proper fit of denture is virtually impossible in situations such as I have described. Once all of the teeth are removed and the gums have been 'leveled', a better rate of success is obtained but with bone loss, it is foreseeable that the dentures will continue to be malfitting.

see a Prostodontist

for your dentures.. i would see a specialist that works primarily with dentures (prostodontist) the remaining issues a dentist that uses a cavity detector product is an excellant choice
