What is the name of your state? TN

Brief history: Petition for divorce filed, respondent did not answer withint 30 days, motion for default filed and that goes to court Monday (not sure "hearing was the correct word to use").

My question: Respondent plans to go to court Monday. Intends to tell judge everything bad about plaintiff, what he wants from divorce, etc. Plantiff was told by attorney she does not have to be there. Respondent does not have an attorney because he can't afford one (used up his resources on drugs). Will he be allowed to do this?
