What is the name of your state? In California is there a time limit the the Personal Representative has to complete an Estate. We are listed in a Estate to receive 25% and it has been in Probate for 3.5 years. We have asked the Personal Representative to give us an update and she is not responding and emailed the Lawyer for the Estate if he can give us any kind of an update and no response from him either. Is there anything we can do to find out wheat is going on with the Estate. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

My response:

No, there's no time limit. The amount of time depends on the complexities, and whether there's any litigation going on.

If you are a beneficiary, you can obtain a form from the court clerk called "Request for Special Notice". When filed and served on the attorney, the attorney must then copy you on all matters relating to the Estate.

Further, you also need to go to the courthouse to obtain a copy of everything in the court file.

Between the two, you'll be up-to-date, and remain up-to-date.
