What is the name of your state?New Jersey. My ex changed jobs, lost some salary, I get a letter from her lawyer requesting documents so they can try to change the child support payments. Do I have to send what they ask? Is a court appearence required before they can jack up the amount I am now paying ?. If we go to court, what is the procedure ? Do I need legal representation, which I cannot afford right now ?

Your best bet in NJ may be to request an early settlement panel (ESP). You and your ex will meet with an arbitrator (basically, local attorneys who volunteer their time once a month or two), who will try to help you come to an agreement.
