What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? CA

My friend wants to do a paternity test on his son who is 17. The parents have been married for 21 years and his name is on the birth certificate. Not sure if the mother will agree to it or not. What legal recourse does he have if he finds the child is not his after all this time? (Besides a divorce which I'm sure will happen as a result).

In California, paternity can be established at any time. However, even if the kid is found not to be his, that won't affect his obligations. With so much time passing, the child is his legally.

None. They were married when the child was born therefore he is the father. He should just leave it alone.
