A friend of mine has had back problems for several years. He has had to change jobs 2 times because of his back. About 2 months ago he started getting paralysis in one leg. He was admitted to the hospital and they did several test that showed his back is much worse. He has total loss of disc space, the report used terms like "severe chronic degenerative disc disease" and "advanced degeneration". He has been to several Drs. and all have said that the techknowlgy is not available yet to help and try wait until it is. This family has depletated all their saving and had to declare bankruptcy trying hoping that either physcial therapy or surgery would help, to no avail. So he has decided to apply for SSD and SSI. Does any one have any advice to help make the prosses quicker or easier? What should he put as the date of disablity, since it has been progressively getting worse over the course of 5 years or more? Should he try to get a lawyer to help with the applcation? Thank you for your time.
