What is the name of your state?New York

I believed my legal separation was effective last October, but now after talking with some people I'm questioning it. I never received a copy via mail that I had to sign for. I don't have an original stamped from New York State. The only one I have is a copy which I was supposed to sign that I had received the copy. I would have asked my lawyer, only I never retained one & am looking to do that now. Is there a way to confirm anything?
